Title: Out-of-Hours Nursing Team Leader (RVN)

Location: Cave Veterinary Specialists, Wellington, Somerset, South West England

Hours: Ideally full-time position (37.5 hours/week). Part-time hours considered. Flexible twilight or night hours considered.

Salary: Starting from £35,000/annum FTE, depending on experience, with enhanced unsociable hours pay.

Our team of highly experienced Veterinary Surgeons and Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs) work with cutting-edge diagnostic and surgical technology, including CT, MRI, digital and dental X-rays, ultrasound, and fully equipped theatres. This advanced setup enables us to manage even the most complex and challenging cases with precision and compassion.

 We are looking for an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) Team Leader to lead our Out-of-Hours nursing team. This is a unique opportunity to combine clinical expertise with leadership acting as a link between day and night teams.

 

You will have the chance to develop referral nursing skills, lead the night team, and support the development of the Night Lead RVN, acting as a link between day and night teams.

Main responsibilities:

  • Maintain an overview of the nursing team, ensuring the highest standard of care and client service.
  • Demonstrate practical clinical skills and lead by example.
  • Liaise with other Team Leaders, clinicians, and departments to ensure smooth patient flow.
  • Represent the nursing team at leadership meetings and cascade relevant information.
  • Support the efficient running of the clinical service, including coordinating workflow and general nursing duties.
  • Monitor team performance, conduct regular performance reviews, and ensure appropriate training and support.
  • Collaborate with HoNS and People & Organisation teams to manage performance, disciplinary, or attendance concerns.
  • Approximately 80% clinical work with 20% dedicated to administrative and leadership duties.

Potential applicants will need:

  • Strong time management, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Experience as a team leader or senior RVN.
  • Ability to work independently in an Out-of-Hours specialist veterinary environment.
  • Passion for delivering the best standard of care to patients.

Referral nurse experience is desirable but not essential. Leadership experience is essential.
