At Northwest Veterinary Specialists, we are a specialist, multi-disciplinary referral hospital dedicated to delivering exceptional care across a range of specialist services, including Neurology, Internal Medicine, Soft Tissue Surgery, Orthopaedics, Dermatology, and Oncology.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Patient Care Assistant (PCA) to join our dynamic team. This is a unique and rare opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary environment, supporting our clinicians and nurses in delivering outstanding care to patients with complex and varied needs.

As a PCA, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth running of the hospital and the comfort and wellbeing of our patients. You’ll work closely with specialists across multiple disciplines, gaining exposure to advanced procedures and treatments in a fast-paced, collaborative setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing supportive care and psychological comfort to inpatients, which can include handling, feeding, exercising, grooming, and providing enrichment to reduce anxiety.
  • Assisting veterinary surgeons and registered veterinary nurses with animal handling for examinations and diagnostic procedures.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment, which involves cleaning kennels/cages, surgical theatres, and general hospital areas. Infection control will play a significant part of the role.
  • Ensuring the correct disposal of clinical waste and compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Preparing equipment and accommodation for animals.
  • Manage patient records accurately and efficiently.
  • Monitoring the general wellbeing of patients and reporting any changes to the clinical team
  • Work collaboratively across departments to ensure seamless patient care. x

Hours

40 hours per week. 4 10-hour days per week plus 1 in 4 weekends.

Career Development:

Our Patient Care Assistants could progress into a Student Veterinary Nurse position via an apprenticeship route. This exciting pathway can be discussed further during your interview.
